What is the Zero Gravity Position?
"Zero Gravity" is simply a clever marketing term used to describe a highly comfortable and relaxing sleeping position.
By raising both your back and legs to a position that feels natural and supportive, pressure on the lower back can often be significantly reduced.
This is achieved because the profiling action of an adjustable bed allows the lumbar region of the spine to maintain better contact with the mattress. As a result, pressure is distributed more evenly across the body, allowing muscles that would normally be working to support the lower back to relax.
Whilst it is obviously impossible to achieve true zero gravity outside of space, the position can improve comfort, sleep quality, and may help alleviate the symptoms of a range of medical conditions.
Zero Gravity Adjustable Bed Position
There is no single "correct" zero gravity position. Every individual has a different body shape, weight distribution, and comfort preference, meaning there are countless variations that can create the same feeling of weightlessness and support.
The ideal position is simply the one that provides the greatest level of comfort and pressure relief for you.
How to Achieve the Zero Gravity Sleep Position
The angle at which you raise your back works in combination with the angle at which you raise your legs. Small adjustments to either section can make a noticeable difference to your comfort.
For more than 99% of people, a standard 5-part adjustable bed mechanism provides all the adjustment required to achieve an effective zero gravity position. This is why our 5-part adjustable bed mechanism is included as standard within our Build-A-Bed range.
Available Adjustable Bed Mechanisms
5-Part Adjustable Bed Mechanism (Standard)
Included as standard with all of our adjustable beds. Provides excellent comfort, pressure relief, and the ability to achieve a zero gravity sleeping position.
Heavy Duty Adjustable Bed Mechanism
Recommended for users over 18 stone (115kg). Features strengthened components and upgraded motors for increased durability and support.
Profiling & Lifting Adjustable Bed Mechanism
Designed for individuals who require assistance from carers. Provides additional height adjustment to make transfers and care easier.
4-Motor Adjustable Bed Mechanism
Available as an optional upgrade. This mechanism allows the pillow section to be adjusted independently from the back section, providing additional positioning options not available on a standard 5-part mechanism.

Which Adjustable Beds Can Achieve Zero Gravity?
Claims that one adjustable bed can achieve a "better" zero gravity position than another are generally misleading. The vast majority of adjustable beds with a quality 5-part mechanism are capable of creating a comfortable zero gravity position.
However, some medical conditions may require more precise positioning of the neck, upper back, legs, or feet than a standard mechanism can provide.
In these cases, our 4-Motor Adjustable Bed Mechanism may offer a more suitable solution.

4-Motor Zero Gravity Adjustable Bed Mechanism
The 4-Motor Mechanism provides independent adjustment of the pillow section, allowing more precise positioning of the upper body. It can also help users who require their feet to sit slightly lower than their knees or who need a more specialised sleeping position for medical or comfort reasons.
The 4-Motor Mechanism is available with any of our adjustable bed ranges, although it is a more expensive upgrade due to the additional functionality it provides.
